Sheila Hancock Brushes Up: The Art of Watercolours
Sunday 20 February

Presenter Sheila Hancock likes watercolours. "You can get an immediate human reaction in a way that you can't with oils," she says. And she loves the fact they used to document scenes in the days before photography was commonplace. So, as a taster for a new exhibition at Tate Britain, she follows in the steps of various watercolourists - some as famous as JMW Turner, others less well known, such as Lady Charlotte Canning - by travelling around the UK, Venice, the Alps and Calcutta to see where and how they painted. It's a gently enjoyable dabble into the subject that requires no exertion. Just the ability to appreciate a nice picture.
